When I picked up Helpmeet, I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself in to. I knew it was set in my favorite time period, the early 1900s, and of course, the overall theme was a mysterious illness; a combo that seemed perfect for me. And I wasn't wrong. In fact, I simply devoured this short body horror and it left me wanting for more!
I can't really say too much about the plot, since the story is so short and I don't want to give anything away. All I can say is that it revolves around a wife who is lovingly taking care of her sick husband. He is suffering from an illness that causes his body to simply waste away. But soon she realizes he might not be sick at all... no, he is in fact transforming.
There are a lot of gnarly, gory scenes in this story. Not for the weak of stomach, but it didn't take away from the slow burning story either.
